Traditional bothy accommodation right on the Cateran trail

Welcome to West Gormack bothy on Middleton of Glasclune Farm

Situated three miles by road from the centre of Blairgowrie West Gormack Bothy is accessed along a single track road from the village of Kinloch – it is approx. one mile north of Kinloch. The Bothy can also be accessed on foot via the Cateran Trail on its route from Blairgowrie through to Bridge of Cally – it is about three miles over beautiful Perthshire countryside from the usual starting point of the Cateran Trail in the centre of Blairgowrie.

The Bothy is adjacent to the trail approx. 200 yards to the South of the Lornty Burn and 100 yards from the old farm buildings at West Gormack. It offers stunning views to the East and South down the valley to Blairgowrie and to the North and West up to Sarjeant’s Hill, Carnashach Wood and Middleton Muir.

Originally built to house seasonal farm labour, the bothy then became a store for farm materials but gradually fell into disrepair. Its recent renovation has returned it to its original state and with some modern extras it offers comfortable accommodation in beautiful surroundings.

The bothy is three miles by road from local amenities in Blairgowrie including a large supermarket and an excellent choice of pubs, cafes, and restaurants.

The Cateran Trail

Scotland is famous for its long-distance trails – the Cateran Trail is one of the twenty-nine such trails. It is a circular trail with a natural starting/finishing point in Blairgowrie – it traverses a good cross-section of the countryside in Scotland and needs to be visited to be appreciated. At 64 miles long and with a highest point of just over 2000 ft it has well-marked paths throughout. Below are links to websites that give all the details of the trail.

More information on the trail can be found on the Perthshire and Kinross Countryside Trust website.
